In today’s episode, I’m super thrilled to be joined by Ellen Lauletta. Ellen has a super inspiring story as a medical entrepreneur, and today she is going to share it with us!
We’re gonna be discussing her journey as an entrepreneur, the mindset she has adopted to succeed, and how she has balanced her work and professional life while building a successful med spa!
So without further ado, let’s get right into it!
How Ellen got to where she is now
Ellen’s story as a medical professional is probably pretty similar to many other professionals.
Ellen always knew that she loved dealing with people, and had a real passion for helping people.
After deciding she wanted to beef up her resume a little, she decided to take up some volunteer work in a hospital, where she got to meet a CRNA for the first time.
Ellen explains how she was totally blown away with meeting her for the first time, she says that even though she had no idea what she did, she seemed like a total superhero, saving lives left, right and center!
Straight away, Ellen knew that she was going to go to nursing school, and nothing was gonna change her mind!
But… as all us medical professionals know… sometimes you land your dream job and can quickly realize that it’s not what you hoped or expected it to be.
And little did Ellen know that the entrepreneurial world would eventually come and bite her.
So fast forward a couple of years, and Ellen has had her first baby. But soon, she comes to realize that working on trauma call and having a one-year old baby at the house to come home to is not a great mix.
So after dabbling in MLM marketing and finding some short-term solutions, Ellen eventually realized that she needed a long term fix. She wanted to be totally independent and not have to rely on anyone else for anything.
Turning to Entrepreneurship
During the first lockdown, Ellen enjoyed spending time with her two kids and loved the opportunity to take some time to herself.
She was ready to begin her journey running her own med spa.
Quickly, Ellen learned that running a brick and mortar business is totally different to running an online business.
All of a sudden, Ellen had a ton of different things that she had to manage.
But what helped her get through it?
Mentors.
Ellen believes in having a mentor that’s 3-5 years ahead, and another one that is 10 years ahead. She puts a huge focus on not reinventing the wheel, and instead doing what already works.
On top of that, Ellen stresses the importance of looking at the bigger picture and not being obsessed with the short term. If you can’t let a day go by without letting your business affect your mood, then as Ellen will say, you’re in big trouble.
When you start to take a long-term perspective, start being consistent and putting in the work even on the days you don’t feel like it, then you’re on your way to owning a successful practice.
The Most Important Thing as an Entrepreneur
Ellen often says that the single most important thing for an entrepreneur is mindset.
Too many people nowadays live in what we call the microwave society, where people are always looking for things right here and right now.
You have to be humble, and you have to have a lifelong commitment to learning, and you have to surround yourself with people who are ahead of you.
Unfortunately, most people can’t do this, since they’re too proud of themselves or whatever, but you have to learn to look at people who are successful and carefully analyze how they ended up in the position that they are in, and think about what you can learn from them to get into that position.
