Hey guys and welcome back to the Medical Entrepreneur podcast.
My name is Adam Sewell, and this is where we teach you how to break free from traditional medicine, to carve the career of your dreams and still do what you love.
In today’s episode I’m super excited to be joined by Dr. Bao Thai, who is a chiropractor and has changed a ton of lives by treating patients using his system.
In today’s episode we’re gonna be talking about Dr. Bao Thai’s background in medicine, his personal backstory, using medicine in the short vs long term and what practice owners nowadays need to know.
So without further ado, let’s get right into it!
How Dr. Bao Thai got into Medicine
Dr. Bao Thai spent most of his younger days in the doctor’s office at the weekend, mainly due to the problems his mother had. His mother had chronic respiratory problems.
When Dr. Bao was there, he loved it! He would walk in, the doctors and nurses were nice, he would get a sticker lollipop, and he had a great time!
But the eye-opening moment for Dr. Bao was when he would always have these images of his mom taking pills and treatment, but never actually getting better because of it.
What he realized was that even though his mom was always taking these treatments, she was never actually getting better, and the issue here was that the longer you ignore the root cause of a problem, the more significant the repercussions become!
But eventually, his mother was able to find a doctor who would address the root cause of the issue, and that root cause was that she was having an allergic reaction which was creating the asthma.
Using Medicine in the Short Vs Long Term
As Dr. Bao Thai says, there is a time and a place for everything.
So for example, the question that we really need to be asking ourselves is whether or not medicine is a short or long term solution for someone.
So when Dr. Bao wanted to become a neuropathy expert he would say to himself: What is actually happening? Why is there a problem? Why are some medications successful at treating symptoms and why is that the case?
This is exactly why young kids don’t have nerve issues, because they’re active and in a healthy state.
But as you get older, your nerves become more susceptible to damage, and that’s what helps Dr. Bao in his practice.
Because they always say the best thing you could ask for if you open a hotdog stand, is a starving market. In the same way, when Dr. Bao tells people about his way of treating people without medication, they love it, they can’t get enough of it!
The Secret to a Successful Practice
Dr. Bao explains that there are two ways to do things.
You can always go through life and do the hard things and make things more difficult for yourself, or you can find shortcuts by working with mentors.
But what’s also important with that is consistency. Because everybody is always looking for the home-run. But the truth about the home run is that it very rarely comes.
A more secure way to be able to guarantee your success is to be consistent and do things in the long run.
It’s like how Charlie Munger and Warren Buffet put it, they say that success will come in the long term, but only if we do things consistently and put the necessary time and effort into allowing things to grow and really blossom.
Learning From Everybody
Like Dr. Bao says, learning from so many people is important.
For example, Dr. Bao explains that he’s learned it’s not only important to be a good doctor, but you have to be a good marketer, too.
You could have the best neuropathy, the best procedures, the best everything, but if nobody knows about it, then you’re not gonna hear about it.
In order to build a really successful practice, you have to be a good doctor, but you also have to be a good marketer, salesman, business manager and you have to be good at hiring people, too!
That’s how you’re able to build a successful practice in the long run.
